Food Security Fund

Food insecurity is a strong social determinant of health and linked to many negative, chronic health outcomes. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #2, Zero Hunger, is to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. This issue was high-lighted in our Northumberland’s Vital Signs report.

The purpose of this Fund is to support food security projects and programs within Northumberland County. A Food Security Fund, typically established to ensure long-term access to nutritious food for vulnerable populations, can also serve as a crucial emergency fund during crises. In times of natural disasters, economic downturns, or unexpected disruptions like pandemics, this fund can be rapidly mobilized to provide immediate relief. By allocating resources to community organizations and local foods banks to purchase and distribute food, the fund may help stabilize food supply chains and assist in preventing hunger. This dual-purpose approach not only addresses urgent needs but also reinforces the resilience of food systems, ensuring communities are better prepared for future emergencies.

We are incredibly fortunate to have donors in our community who are willing to take action to make a difference. Your donation is a testament to the power of community and the positive change we can achieve together. By donating to our Food Security Fund, you are offering hope, dignity, and a brighter future for countless individuals and families in our community.
